The bed bug infestation in Spain has increased by 71% in the first nine months of 2023, according to a report by the company Anticimex1. The highest incidence is being reported in Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and Aragon.
Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are hematophagous insects that feed on human blood and other warm-blooded animals. They do not fly and hardly move, so they tend to hide near the bed to bite during the night.

It is still unknown how it will affect them in the long run, but in the context of climate change, with these two years of intense heat, these creatures reproduce more rapidly. If it used to take a month for them to lay eggs and have a new generation, now it can be reduced to less than two weeks.
